Harp seal pups (Phoca groenlandica) retain their distinctive snow-white coat until just two to three weeks of age. Closely associated with ice floes of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans the northwest Atlantic harp seal population is over exploited through hunting and a poorly regulated trade in seal products.
