At home in the northern boreal region of Canada from the Yukon to Newfoundland and Labrador, the arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is built for the subzero polar winter. Its thick fur coat and long, fluffy tail wraps its body like a blanket to sleep while snow boot-like fur on its feet muffle footsteps when approaching prey. Habitat loss and red fox encroachment on their territory, both due to climate change, pose a risk to their future.
